The original Glanford Greenhouse has been on their Glanford Roadd location since the 1920’s. Their family has been operating the same greenhouse since 1960, when they grew only hothouse tomatoes and cucumbers. Three generations later, Doug and Ling Eng have expanded their produce varieties to include peppers, eggplants, basil, lettuce, beans, and much more! On this tour, we will learn about the glass structure that is the foundation of their operation. The Greenhouses is a "venlo" style glass greenhouse with heat from a natural gas boiler, circulating hot water in pipe rails. The environment is controlled manually without the aid of computers. Greenhouse plants are started in February and grown in coco peat slabs and fed with hydroponic nutrients through the irrigation. Pests are controlled using biological controls. Don't forget to join us for the Conference on January 29th!
