Compost Field Day
Monday January 26th at 1:30pm, 6341 Old East Road, Central Saanich
Joel Aldrich-Witt, General Manager of Farm to Garden Organics
Presentation will be a walking tour of our composting facility in this order: Garden waste receiving, waste processing, integration with cattle operations, composting facility and processes


Blueberry Production plus a bonus Wash/Pack Station Field Day
Tuesday January 27th at 10am, 1438 Mt Newton Cross Road
Heather Stretch, Northbrook Farm
We will spend most of our time in the blueberry field, covering everything from fertility to disease management to various marketing strategies.  Although we'll be talking about blueberries, many of the principles will apply to other perennial crops.  We'll then move up to our wash/pack area where we will talk about how our veggie washing/packing system has evolved.  Please bring your own ideas to share... all the best ideas come from peer-to-peer learning. 
* Heather will also be leading Employment, Payroll and Subsidies on Thursday at the Saanich Fairgrounds.


Maintaining Perennials for Cut Flower Production Field Day
Tuesday January 27th at 1:00pm, Central Saanich

A farm tour and overview of perennial plants useful for cut flower production. We'll go over maintenance and culture of herbaceous and woody perennials and how they can fit into your  farm context.


Masterclass in Fencing Field Day
Wednesday January 28th at 9am, 7090 Sea Cliff Road, Sooke
Julia Smith, Tristan Banwell and Amber Rowse-Robinson - Small-Scale Meat Producers Association & Brass Bell Farm
Join Julia Smith and Tristan Banwell of the Small-Scale Meat Producers Association at Brass Bell Farm, for an electric fencing masterclass! Learn how to implement new fences, and improve existing ones to create effective, multi-species fencing for rotational grazing and more permanent paddocks. Learn about different electric fencing products, and gain hands-on experience planning and implementing effective fencing for farms of any size.


Seed Production Field Day
Wednesday January 28th at 1:00 pm, 3680 Otter Point Road, Sooke

On this field day event, participants will get an inside look at on-farm seed production and the opportunity to see some very innovative cleaning tools and methods.


Irrigation for Small and Midsized Farm Applications
Friday January 30th at 1:30, Room 6 2151 Lannon Way, Sidney

Join us for a presentation of new and older technology for irrigation systems directed to small and mid-sized farms. Karen will focus on irrigation equipment for efficiency and effective application and answer questions such as ‘sprinklers verses drip, when and why to choice one option over the other?’ She will go over the equipment available to make your life easier; the length of time to operate for water efficiencies; how the water moves to the roots; the kinds of controls, manual or automatic and what is available; and what makes sense for your farm and your time.
